Helping people to retain their independence has always been a big passion of mine and I make sure that every hand-picked member of my team feels the same way. I really believe that to practical care in a professional but caring way, it needs to be something that people really want to do and I can promise you that we always work in that way.
My passion started when I was much younger…..
Many years ago, before I really knew what I wanted to do with my life, I would visit my grandparents. I always looked forward to visiting them, my gramps would always have the bottom drawer in the fridge full with goodies and we’d have a glass of fizzy pop. I’d also use our visit to show off my latest musical talent, they obviously thought I could have been the next Mozart, my parents were maybe not so sure!
My Gramps was my Nan’s carer, she suffered with Multiple Sclerosis and dementia, he lived his life for her making sure she was well looked after and comfortable. Growing up I would always enjoy helping my nan walk around their bungalow, combing her hair or painting her nails and helping my gramps with the cooking, or a bit of housework.
I was 19 and at a point in my life where I really didn't know what to do, so sat with my Nan and Gramps one day they suggested applying for a Home Care job pointing out to me that I had always enjoyed helping them and maybe I would enjoy doing it for other people. So, I did!
At 19, I was the youngest carer in my team and all the other carers I worked with took me under their wing. I will always be grateful to them for helping me and showing me how to be the best carer I could be.
In 2006 my Gramps passed away, and with my experience in Home Care and knowing how important the practical side of care was to him and many other people I had looked after, I decided to start Home Fairies.
Over the years, the team has grown and we have been able to assist many people who are either the main carer for their husband/wife, or somebody living on their own. I’m proud to say that every single member of our team provides an exceptional level of service to the people they look after and that they truly love having the impact that they do.
The support that we provide really does come from the love that I have for my grandparents and I really hope we are able to help in even the smallest of ways to make people’s lives just that little bit easier.
